Jasmine-Scented Green Tea

Tisane? Naw – this is a traditionally made green tea layered, rolled, and dried in Jasmine petals three times

A Taiwanese Specialty, Jasmine-Scented Green tea, or Xiang Pian, is like no other flower infused tea you’ve had. Tisanes are still one of the most popular form of sold teas, and for good reason – it’s a way to make cheap tea drinkable through masking the tea with added flavors at the end, thus keeping the price low.  What makes this tea different is that the Jasmine addition is integrated into the tea making process using quality green tea from Nantou.

The scenting process is quite time consuming and skill intensive. Instead of using dried flowers like Tisanes, our Jasmine Scented tea uses freshly picked Jasmine flowers, which are hand picked at the perfect hottest time as the flowers petals will close and retain the floral aroma. Then they will lay these flowers over the green tea leaves and as the temperature drops into the night, the flowers open releasing their aroma. The next day the flowers are taken off and the process restarts for a total of 3 days.

For this reason, the tea is truly a delicacy, with the scent of the Jasmine, without the astringency or fake perfume aroma and mouth feel of the typical Jasmine blend. Also unlike tisanes, this tea can be brewed multiple times Gong Fu Style, as the Jasmine forward florality shifts into the vegetal sweetness of the green tea in later brews.

2nd brew: 80C,15 sec
3rd+ brews: 85C, add 15 sec each time

It can be brewed up to 4-5 brews.
To brew Gōng Fū Chá Style, preheat the teapot before putting tea leaves, and start with boiling water quick brew, around 15-20 seconds.*
For the continuing brews, the brewing time can be increased 5-10 seconds on each brew.**

We don’t like to throw away the first brew (often called “first wash”) because all our oolong tea are high quality and clean, we feel like a waste to throw them away.
** Each tea is alive in this own way, this is just a recommended brewing method. We encourage you to listen to the tea, listen to yourself, feel the tea and experiment with the tea.

(If you discover an exciting method, please let us know, we are always happy to hear and learn from each other! )
