Japanese Tea Tasting by Regions
January 25 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
€25,00There’s more to Japanese tea than just Matcha and green tea.
Ever since tea was first introduced from China in the 8th century, Japan has carved its own unique path in the tea world. Last year’s “Japan Tea Tour” was our first event to sell out, and for good reason – it’s a great way for new and seasoned tea lovers to learn more about the world of tea.
This Japan Fest, your guide Uyo Okabe (Tea producer, Tea Art festival curator, and founder of Japan Tea Brewers Championship) will be joined by 5 other Tea Culture Professionals with deep ties from all over Japan. You’ll learn about Japanese tea history from its beginnings in the 8th century to the modern incarnation and inventions shaping tea today. But this year’s focus will be on 6 quintessential teas of different regions that each professional has a deep connection with – Kyoto, Kumamoto, Fukuoka, Shizuoka, Akita. Like last year’s event, “Regional Tea” is great for newcomers and knowledgeable tea people alike!
There will also be a tea tasting component to compliment the talk, where you will explore the beautiful diversity of Japanese tea offerings with the different teas from around the bountiful island including Matcha, Gyokuro, Kamairicha and others. This year they will also be bringing a very interesting caffeine free tea rarely seen in the west from Akita called Kuromoji made from Japanese Rosewood tree.
