Whisked and Steeped: Matcha & Sencha Tea Ceremony
January 26 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
€40,00In the past two Japan Fests, the Matcha Tea Ceremony would sell out incredibly fast. This year, not to outdo ourselves (well actually to outdo ourselves) we’ll not only have two Tea Ceremony sessions, but they will also be extended session with both Matcha and Sencha Tea Ceremonies.
You will first learn about the traditional etiquette that goes into Tea Ceremony. Then Matsubayashi-san of famed ceramics kiln Asahiyaki will be preparing matcha in his unique handmade Asahiyaki tea bowls, which were made in Uji Kyoto – the heart of Matcha – for 16 generations. Following the Matcha ceremony, tea producer Jun Morishita will be performing a Sencha ceremony using his very own teas. This is one of those rare beautiful moments where you can have tea brewed for you as intended by the very person who made them. Paired with the tea will be special Higashi made by Wagashi instructor Yukako Yasuda.
No previous experience needed, this event is intended for everyone.
NB: The ceremony will be floor seating with cushions support if necessary. There will be two rounds of ceremony on 26.1 Sun – Round 1: 11-12 & Round 2: 13-14. The content for two rounds are the same. Please make sure the round time when you purchase the ticket.
