Red Tea | Tasting & Evaluation

€38,00Red Tea 红茶, mostly known as Black tea in the west, has somehow given the impression of a slightly bitter and high in caffeine tea since the 17th century. Not only is the caffeine bit a myth (as caffeine has more to do with the concentration of buds in the tea, since buds contain the most insect-repelling caffeine) But in fact, just within the realm of red tea, there are so many different tasting profiles ranging from fruity to honey, smoky to caramel.
In this tasting & evaluation session, we will showcase red teas from four major tea regions – Yunnan (China), Fujian (China), Alishan (Taiwan) and Shizuoka (Japan), and learn about each one’s characteristics. You will not only learn the fundamentals in tasting the terroir and processing style, but also be able to taste some authentic high quality representatives red tea including traditionally smoked Lapsang Souchong which is from the original Tong Mu area. Most typically the smoked teas in the west are not from the original area, nor do they use the particular (Ma Wei Song) Pine tree as the heat source at traditional wooden house Qinglou (and are thus not true Lapsang Souchong). We’re super excited to share these wonderful teas with you all!
