In Japanese history, Tea and Flowers are inextricably connected. Just as there is Chado, the way of tea, there is also Kado, the way of flower and often times practioners of one will also practice the other as their philosophies intertwine. Thus naturally, Asahiyaki, one of the storied names in ceramic teawares for 16 generations, also designs and crafts timeless flower vases.
For Nari Japan Fest this year, we’re honored to have the head of Asahiyaki Shop and Gallery, Matsubayashi-san coming to exhibit Asahiyaki teawares and vases at the Nari Tea Lab. To celebrate this momentous occasion, we’ve partnered with the amazing floral artisans at Mu Filosofia to host a Modern Flower Arrangement workshop using Asahiyaki vases.
Participants will choose a vase to work with, and will learn how to pick and arrange flowers inspired by the vase shape and design. You will be able to take home your creative arrangement at the end of the workshop, and will also have the opportunity to purchase the vase of your choosing.
*FYI Since the vases are large (21-25cm tall, 9-15cm wide) you will be making larger bouquets rather than ikebana style minimal arrangements.
The standard ticket includes the access to the 1.5h workshop and all the flower and tool materials of learning about flower arrangement. You will be able to take the flowers back home, but the ticket does NOT include the flower vase that you use during the workshop. You have the chance to purchase the flower vase at Nari Tea LAB.
