The collaboration with en edit from Helsinki-based Design Studio D-ja on paper crochet is back in May together with our other 3-year anniversary events!
Paper is a natural material with deep spiritual and functional significance in Asian cultures. While Nordic design is often rooted in nature and wood craftsmanship, paper remains a less explored medium for home objects and textiles. With our East Asian heritage and Finnish design background, together with en edit from Studio D-ja, we introduce the rich potential of paper through curated objects, markets, and workshops to those seeking new design perspectives.
Did you know that your hands have their own way of thinking and muscle memories? Through touch, you were born to sense the physical world—its weight, temperature, softness, durability, textures, and even the humidity of every object and material.
On May 31 (Sat), we invite you to a join our one-day popup exploring different paper-made designs and a cozy evening workshop to relax and explore paper with your hands. In this workshop, you will be guided to crochet a 9x9cm tea mat from paper yarn (no previous experience with crocheting needed). There will be two types of raffia paper yarns sourced by D-ja from Taiwan and China. Both are crafted using 100% natural wood pulp, showcasing the unique aesthetics and properties of East Asian paper. These yarns are hand-washable, durable and soft – perfect for crocheting and gentle on the skin.
Nari will also be serving tea throughout the evening including our Taiwanese Oolongs and low/non caffeinated teas. We look forward to a fun night together!
The one-day POPUP with selected paper designs around the world will open on 31.5 (Sat) 13:00 – 19:00 and during the paper crochet workshop. You are welcome to join the popup even if you are not participating in the workshop.
