Audio Visual Tea Performance | MADZINE x Deerland

July 9 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm EEST
Free

We’re so excited to be hosting our good friend Angie from Deerland Tea and MADZINE for a special evening of music and tea like nothing you’ve seen before. Based in Berlin and Taiwan, Angie is easily one the best Taiwanese tea practitioners in Europe, and we’ve known and have been inspired by her since the beginnings of Nari. MADZINE, a Berlin based audiovisual artist, will also be joining, who’s wholly inspiring in our other loves – sound and design. He’ll be debuting his own custom audio reactive visualizer translating and building on Angies tea evaluation movements with live sound and visuals. This Thursday night Nari will be transformed into an experimental play space at the edge of tea, sound and sight. We can’t wait!!

Using Vision MOD, MADZINE’s custom software, the live image of Deerlandtea’s tea evaluation drives the sound in real time, while the same image is distorted into projected visuals. As she moves through the steps of evaluation and cupping, her gestures shape an evolving field of sound and image — a quiet, careful ritual turned into something that moves and breathes. At the end, the audience is invited to share a cup she prepares Live.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Deerlandtea is a Taiwan-to-Germany specialty tea practice that treats tea service as a craft in its own right — adjusting water, temperature, and timing to a tea’s structure, oxidation, and age so each cup unfolds over time. Working much as one would with fine wine, they read tea as an expression of place. Beyond their collection, Deerlandtea stages curated tea experiences at cultural venues across Europe, from Frieze London to Hamburg’s MK&G and Staatstheater Darmstadt.

MADZINE is a multimedia artist from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, based between Europe and Japan. He creates through improvisation and balance of natural, electronic, acoustic, and digital elements. His artistic career began in Tokyo and Berlin, extending to numerous exhibitions and residency programs across Europe and Japan. With over a decade of experience in sound design education, he serves as an endorsed artist for the Soundfreak modular synthesizer brand. Additionally, he began software development in 2025, and has since developed more than a dozen custom audiovisual applications and over thirty digital modular synthesizers.
